Zug increases child allowances to improve family support

The Zug cantonal government is increasing the monthly child and education allowances by ten per cent to CHF 330 (previously CHF 300) up to the age of 18 and CHF 385 (previously CHF 350) from the age of 18 as of the beginning of 2025. At the same time, the contributions paid by employers and self-employed persons to the Zug Family Compensation Fund will be reduced from 1.6 per cent to 1.35 per cent of income subject to AHV contributions.

Employees, self-employed persons and non-employed persons with a modest income and unemployed mothers who receive maternity benefits are entitled to family allowances.

The new Zug rates are therefore around 50% higher than the federal requirements, according to which the child allowance must be at least CHF 215 per month per child and the education allowance at least CHF 268.

Family allowances are mainly financed by contributions from employers and the self-employed. These can also expect a reduction in contributions if they are affiliated to the Zug family equalisation fund. In this context, the Zug cantonal government is reducing the contribution rate from 1.6 per cent of the AHV-liable payroll to 1.35 per cent from 2025.
